This is the Key to Feeling Better on Bad Days
Having a bad day? Going through a rough patch? Life crisis? The key to making a bad day just a bad moment so you can feel better is simple.
Let yourself fall apart, but not forever. Set a timer for 20 minutes and let it all out. Then, when the timer goes off…
Go back to basics.
Put your phone in another room. Or, better still, turn it off!!
Sit or lay down. Close your eyes. Notice your breath. Make it deeper, slower, smoother.
Breathe in these reminders:
- Know that you are where you are right now for a very important reason.
- Life will never give you anything you can’t handle.
- It will all make sense in a little while, but for now…go back to basics.
Put only the essentials on your to-do list:
Drink water.
Breathe deeply.
Eat foods that heal.
Surround yourself with loving people.
Read books that resonate with your soul.
Move to get out of your head and back into your body. Go for a walk in the woods, on the beach, in the park, in your backyard – anywhere you can breathe fresh air and see the sky above.
Close your eyes. Feel your feet and the earth below. Connect.
Remind yourself of the things you have to be grateful for, and let the words Thank You become your most important mantra. Repeat it until you start believing in it again.
I say this from experience. I’ve fallen apart more than once. I still have crap days!!
But every single time I wake up feeling empty or get triggered into pain, I’ve been reminded of divinity. Of the infinity of light that exists for me no matter how much darkness surrounds me.
Once I open my heart to the present moment, things start to shift.
Over time, as I’ve come to find myself breaking down, soon after I am bathing in light. Sitting in silence. Reading books. Meditating with the rising sun. I find presence. I find sacred moments. All by lovingly bringing myself back to basics with total, mindful presence.
Think of a small child. When they cry, what do they need? Not a long-winded pep talk or a Netflix binge. They need water, food, a nap, a walk outside. Their needs are basic, essential, simple.
So when your day feels like it’s spinning out of control or you’re drowning and can’t find which was is up, tend to your inner child. Chances are you have at least one basic need that is not being met! Give yourself love in the simple ways you need.
Then, and only then, you will be able to process what’s happening and find its wisdom. And there is always wisdom, in every moment.
Every bad day I’ve ever had has taught me something I needed to know and wouldn’t understand otherwise. I’ve learned so much from my bad days that I can now say with complete trust…
Absolutely e v e r y t h i n g makes perfect fucking sense.
THANK YOU, UNIVERSE!
For the love.
And for the pain.
I see how the two walk hand in hand, and I'm finally, finally understanding what it's all about.
You will, too. You can do this. You are strong, you are whole. And you are not alone.
Go back to basics. Nurture your inner child. Then, when you feel the light (it will always find you), give thanks.
