Don’t Wait for Happiness to Find You - Choose it Now!
A day at the beach is all I need to remember life’s greatest lessons.
Our minds can latch onto drama, for example, and we act like the only way out is a big, cryptic secret.
We forget that we have a choice in the whole matter.
I’m slowly learning how to separate myself from drama. It isn’t easy for me, though. Sometimes I get caught up in caring so much that I struggle to let go. But I’m getting faster at remembering the remedy for drama.
It’s the simplest truth that’s the easiest to forget: Happiness is a choice.
Did you know that? You don’t need to wait for an external circumstance to shift your energy into happiness. You can create it all by yourself. You just have to choose.
And with the choice to be happy comes the knowing that it’s fleeting. It’s impossible to grasp. Passing. Everything, everything is constantly moving!
Happiness cannot exist when we cling onto it. Trying to hang onto a happy moment will just shift it into anxiousness, fear or sadness. Because deep down you know it can’t be done.
If I’ve learned anything at all, it’s that this moment is so fucking beautiful, so precious, but it’s not mine to keep. It’s precious for that very reason - I don’t know what will come next.
I can’t predict life. I’ve come to the conclusion that most of it is out of my control, and really, it’s none of my business anyway.
All I know is that in this moment…I am happy. I spent the day with the man I love. We found a deserted beach. We swam in the warm, turquoise ocean. We talked a lot about everything and nothing. And now we are driving home, our feet covered in sand, his hand in mine.
In this moment, everything is perfect. In a little bit it might be different; something may come up, the spell might be broken.
But why should I go there? We are here. Now. And I am ready for more.
So bring it, universe! I want it all. I will be present, and I will be thankful.
Stop what you’re doing and be in your moment. Right now. Just be. Then say thank you, and let it go. What did you notice? Share one present and grateful moment of your day in the comments below!
